Google adwords automated ad extensions feature rolled out recently, on impact of this release my experience with automated ad extensions has been negative. Especially on newly setup campaigns, the automated ad extension has been automatically applied at account level, so it worked for my campaigns in a different way.

For example, client may have different products or brands in their website and they would like to promote only specific product on google adwords to increase brand and product awareness. In that case, this automated ad extensions enabled campaigns started showing content from all the product, brands and pages in website which has good search volume. Particularly on SERP ads are showing with site links which is irrelevant to the promotions and on result of this campaign budget spend increase gradually for a irrelevant content.

So I decided to share the steps to enable and disable the automated ad extension. Here is the list of automated ad extension.

Dynamic sitelinks ad extensions:  The dynamic sitelinks extension is an automated extension that uses search terms to dynamically generate links to your website below your ad text. It will looks for search terms and dynamically generate links to your website by fetching content from your whole website.

Step to Enable/disable this dynamic sitelinks ad extensions:

  • Login to your adwords account.
  • Go to Ad Extension Tab.

  • Select “Do not use specific automated extensions for this account” option and check the required extension you would like disable. If it is unchecked, then automated ad extension created automatically from your website content.
  • Click on “Save” to disable automated ad extensions.
  • If you would like to enable automated ad extension any particular extension, you can uncheck the same and click “Save”, so it will enabled on account level which applies across all campaigns and adgroups.

Dynamic Callouts ad extensions: The dynamic callout extension is an automated extension that dynamically shows additional details about your business below your ad text.

Dynamic Structured Snippets ad extensions: The dynamic structured snippet extension is an automated extension that shows details from your website below your ad text.

Previous Visits ad extensions: The previous visits extension is an automated extension that shows the number of times someone has clicked through to your website from Google Search results or Search Network ads.

Seller Ratings ad extension: The seller ratings extension is an automated extension that shows an overall rating for your business with your ad on Google Search.

Consumer Ratings ad extension: The consumer ratings extension is an automated extension that highlights specific aspects of your business that consumers have rated highly in surveys.

Longer ad headline ad extension: The longer ad headline extension is an automated extension that combines your text ad’s first description line with its headline (separated by a hyphen) when the first description line in your text ad is clearly a complete sentence or phrase.

New – Automatic call ad extensions: As shared before Automatic call extension plan, now google introduce this feature which automatically show the phone numbers from the landing page. I believe, this most welcome feature and also I hope it reduce to work in campaign managers.
